Myroslav Marynovych is a vice-rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv. He is a member of the Ukrainian Helsinki Group. In 1977 he was arrested for activities in the group and spent 10 years in a labor camp in the Perm region (Russia) and in exile in Kazakhstan.
He is a founder of Amnesty International Ukraine (1991) and the first chairman (1993-1997) of its National Committee. Since 1997 he is the director of the Institute of Religion and Society of the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv (before 2002 – Lviv Theological Academy), and since 2000 he is the vice-rector of the same University. He is the organizer and participant of numerous conferences on religion in the modern world.
He also is a publicist and the author of articles and monographs on religious, political and human rights topics.
